Passport to South Africa

Elias Melamed

Elijas Melamed was born in Lithuania on 1 January 1846. It is believed he settled in Tartu – then Dorpat – in the middle of the19th century. He and his wife had eleven daughters and one son Hirsch (Harry). Branches of the original family still live in Estonia in the 21st century: Glikmann and Blumberg families.
Five of his daughters and his only son emigrated to South Africa.
In 1922 the widower Elijas and his daughter Sarah Stark left Estonia for Cape Town South Africa where they, together with Harry, are buried at Woltemade Jewish Cemetery - one of the earliest Jewish cemeteries in South Africa.

NB! Nationality - Jewish (1922...)
